DIY: Yogurt Pops

Not only is September just around the corner, but this summer is my last summer before my little guy starts kindergarten. So, I'm trying to squeeze in some fun activities with Branden that will create special memories. There are some things that we do as a family like hanging out at Union Square Park or bike riding in Central Park that have created some awesome memories this summer, but then there are some special things that I like to do with Branden one on one. Some of our favorites are cuddling in bed at night and reading a book together, going to the Museum of Natural History, playing "Go Fish," and cooking. Since Branden loves to be my little helper in the kitchen AND I am working towards shedding a few pounds, we decided to make these guilt free, super healthy, do-it-yourself yogurt pops and share our cooking adventure with you all! I have become sort of a nutrition information freak lately and would much rather make my own snacks, meals, pastries, etc.. and have control over the ingredients going in them, rather than purchasing items filled with sugar and preservatives. (Especially when extra time in the kitchen means spending it with my little guy!) DIY Yogurt Pops Ingredients: Plain yogurt Agave Nectar Your favorite fruit (fresh or frozen) As always, I eye-ball how much I need of each ingredient and used the "taste test" approach when whipping these up! Also, I ordered our popsicle molds off of Amazon, but you can find them pretty much ... Read More

Healthy Snack Ideas For Weight Loss – Busy Mom Style

There are so many wonderful, healthy snack ideas for weight loss that will seriously get that "momtabolism" going, and probably already in your kitchen. I know we are all so used to hearing "Eat 5 SMALL meals during the day in order to lose weight," but that doesn't always work for ALL of us. Everyone eats differently, and everyone's body is different. I say: do what works best for YOU, because it makes YOU feel good! I am personally a grazer. I will graze through little snacks all day long, and then eat a normal dinner. Some might say this is wrong, but it works for me and makes me happy. My theory is that if everything I am putting into my mouth is healthy, then I am probably doing okay. It's not always easy, especially whenever we are lugging kids everywhere and trying to keep ourselves from eating the leftovers off their plates. But, easy healthy snack ideas for weight loss will get you motivated to make and keep your new year goals. Easy Healthy Snack Ideas For Weight Loss My typical breakfast on a work day consists of a Kind Bar and a banana. I can eat this combination (along with my coffee) at around 9:30am and it can hold me over until about 1:30pm. On mornings where I have more time, I love to eat homemade yogurt parfaits (you have to watch the calorie/sugar/fat content on store bought options) with plain yogurt, berries, granola, and honey.  I'm also an egg white freak and love making yummy egg scrambles with fresh veggies....sooo good! Inexpensive Workout Clothes For Women

You will jump for joy whenever you get your hands on these great, inexpensive workout clothes for women. Perfect for hitting the gym or lounging at home! This post contains affiliate links.  Inexpensive Workout Clothes For Women I know that we all strive to get that "beach body" look going on before summer hits and bathing suit shopping begins, but there are "some of us" who are a little bit behind. You see, my husband and I just recently realized that our bodies are not exactly where we want them to be. So even though it is nearing the end of July, we have made a strong commitment with one another to tone up. Therefore, I have declared this "Fitness Week" at Project Motherhood and am going to take you on my journey to toning my body up, in style of course - which starts with inexpensive workout clothes for women. Of course my first step was to make a few stops at some different stores to find some fun clothes to work out in. There is no rule against looking fashionable at the gym, except please let's not go in the direction of those crazy women who come in all glammed up in hair and make-up...big gym no no!  But I am a HUGE believer in the "If you look good, then you feel good" rule. So today my lovely Mamas, we are going to cover our bases of gym fashion. My old working out wardrobe consisted of worn yoga pants (not gonna lie, some had holes in the crotch area!) and an old maternity ribbed tank. I decided that this time around, I needed an update in ... Read More

Eco Friendly Household Items For All Families

I try to be as "green" as possible without getting out of control. I keep my life balanced as best as I can, and use these eco friendly household items as much as possible to do my part in this world. I've noticed that there are some people who are rather zealous whenever it comes to this topic. And on the other side of the coin, there are those who treat their surroundings like an extension of their own personal pigpen. I personally believe that there needs to be a balance within it all. If living a green lifestyle is taking over your thoughts and causing you to be depressed, hateful, or stressed out, then I say that is getting out of control. But if you ignore the fact that we all need to make an effort to leave this planet in as good or better condition than we found it, then that careless attitude of total denial is also out of control.  Did I mention that I believe in balance? And responsibility for our own actions? That said, there are different green products that I use within my household to help keep my family free of some unnecessary chemicals, as well as save some money. Therefore, I thought that I would share my tips and tricks on the trade, and hopefully you will all share back! Here goes! Eco Friendly Household Items We carry reusable water bottles with us wherever we go. We use ZeroWater filters in both our Tumbler water bottles as well as a huge filter we have in the fridge. How To Handle Work Stress

Balance can be difficult as a parent. Stop piling on so many things and check out my guide for how to handle work stress that will be life-changing. This post contains affiliate links.  How To Handle Work Stress Normally my motto is "pile it on", but today my plate is full.  OVERWHELMED is my all-encompassing word of the day (possibly the week), and I need a break! I usually tend to be the kind of person wh0 needs to have a million things on my to-do list, or else I get bored. I find extreme amounts of satisfaction as I successfully complete tasks and cross them off my list.  I love watching the list get smaller and smaller, until I add more, of course.  But every once in a while, there comes a time when adding that last item to the very bottom of my list can really push me over the edge. But lately, I've needed to learn how to handle work stress for my own well being. I normally don't know when it's coming; this feeling seems to just creep up upon me. It's like I hit my breaking point, and there is no turning back. Tips for how to handle work stress  According to kidshealth.org: "Stress is a feeling that's created when we react to particular events. It's the body's way of rising to a challenge and preparing to meet a tough situation with focus, strength, stamina, and heightened alertness." It is important to note that there are such things as 'good stress' and 'bad stress', and even more important to know how to tell the difference. Good stress gives ... Read More

Mindful Eating Tips

Truth: I haven't always had the best relationship with food. So I'm changing things up in my everyday life with these mindful eating tips. This post contains affiliate links.  Mindful Eating Tips I have always considered myself to be a pretty healthy eater, only giving in to the 'bad foods' whenever cravings arise that just can't be controlled by any other measure. I read all the nutrition labels for the foods I eat each day, especially while grocery shopping and choosing foods that I'm going to cook with for my boys. I've always tried to be on top of new food research, findings, and protocols, because I feel that as a mother it is important for me to be on top of what my family is putting into their bodies. (And ahem, if you want the best information about what's actually in the baby food we feed our kids, read this post here - the findings are scary.) In some of my recent research, I keep running across the words 'mindful eating,' so I decided to do a bit of research and share my thoughts with you lovely Mamas. According to The Center for Mindful Eating, this process essentially revolves around making yourself more aware and 'mindful' of what you are putting into your body. Being aware of what we put into our bodies on a daily basis, we will then be able to better satisfy hunger, know when to stop eating, make better choices, and free ourselves of bad eating habits. Meditation practices are also encouraged to go along with this healthier lifestyle. ... Read More

Healthy Options For Fast Food

These healthy options for fast food will help you make better choices when the kids are screaming that they want to go through the drive-through! This post contains affiliate links.  Healthy Options For Fast Food If you are the parent of a young child who is old enough to "express themselves", I think you can relate to my latest dilemma -the recurring battle I seem to be having with my little guy about fast food. Lately, the most dreaded words I can hear coming out of Branden's mouth are "I want McDonald's!" Eeekkk!! It's hard enough dealing with the daily food temptations that are in my kitchen or in the grocery store aisles, without making myself vulnerable to calorie-laden fast food!  As soon as those dreaded words leave Branden's lips, it starts. But first, follow these 5 not so obvious foods to avoid eating. The Drive-Through War, that is. This is the war that takes place inside of me between my stomach and my mind. Once these words are spoken, I know that nothing I could cook for Branden at home will satisfy his fast food craving (he takes after his Daddy!) and that, instead, I am going to have to deal with my worst eating nightmare...being stuck at a fast food restaurant during...Da..Da...Dahhh...Meal Time. (If you're looking to practice mindful eating when choosing foods, you'll love this post.) I do know many of my own strengths and my weaknesses, but the temptations at a fast food joint bring out the worst in me. Whenever it is near meal ... Read More
