Inexpensive Workout Clothes For Women

I know that we all strive to get that “beach body” look going on before summer hits and bathing suit shopping begins, but there are “some of us” who are a little bit behind. You see, my husband and I just recently realized that our bodies are not exactly where we want them to be. So even though it is nearing the end of July, we have made a strong commitment with one another to tone up. Therefore, I have declared this “Fitness Week” at Project Motherhood and am going to take you on my journey to toning my body up, in style of course – which starts with inexpensive workout clothes for women.

Of course my first step was to make a few stops at some different stores to find some fun clothes to work out in. There is no rule against looking fashionable at the gym, except please let’s not go in the direction of those crazy women who come in all glammed up in hair and make-up…big gym no no!  But I am a HUGE believer in the “If you look good, then you feel good” rule. So today my lovely Mamas, we are going to cover our bases of gym fashion.

My old working out wardrobe consisted of worn yoga pants (not gonna lie, some had holes in the crotch area!) and an old maternity ribbed tank. I decided that this time around, I needed an update in a very major way! Since my new work-out routine is going to consist of a lot of running and yoga, I made sure to keep my designated activities in the back of my mind while hunting for this new apparel. I don’t feel like you need to run out and get an entire wardrobe from Lululemon, so here are some great options that will keep you looking hot (and sweaty!) at the gym or on the running paths while you tone up in style!

I was really surprised when I recently wandered around Target’s activewear department. The quality was really great, especially compared to some yoga pants that I have at home from places like Victoria’s Secret. These shorts by C9 by Champion® are so great that I bought them in a couple different colors. They have been perfect for my yoga classes and they dry really fast.

You obviously can’t work out without a great sports bra! (No matter what size your bust is!) This one is from Old Navy and they had them in such great colors and fits that I bought quite a few. If you hurry, they may still be 2 for $20! I think that an assortment of sports bras in fun colors is a really great addition to any woman’s workout wardrobe. They always seem to be creeping out of whatever top you are wearing, so you might as well have it look cute!

Also, while at Old Navy, I picked up a couple of these cute quick dry tanks. They are super comfortable and come in fun, bright colors. I believe that working out in the summer time calls for lots of color in our wardrobes!

I’ve been hearing a lot of great things lately about the GapFit collection that Gap has added to their stores. It focuses on great activewear for all types of athletes. So of course, I headed to the store to try on a few pairs of these running shorts, and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised! Not only do they come in great colors, but I don’t have to worry about pulling then up while running. They are very light weight, and perfect for running!

Last, but not least, the Wunder Under Crop from Lululemon. I feel like these are just a year round closet staple for those of us who want to work out frequently. They are a little bit more money then I like to spend on typical yoga pants ($72) but definitely worth it. They will last you a long time and you will get a lot of use out of them. Sometimes I’m tempted to wear them to work, but then I stop myself.  Imagine how great you are gonna feel when you remind yourself, “NO! I need to save these for working out!”
